"Humble Beginnings.....and Friends That Believe In You"

Well, I just have to post this on my blog because it is a message of encouragement to anyone that is trying to start their own business in this economy.......if you don't get anything out of this message today, I hope you will remember these 2 simple things:  #1. Don't give up!!!...#2. The support of good friends that believe in you are vital to keep you positive.

There will be times (more than once I might add) that you will question yourself, 2nd guess yourself, and wonder why in the world that you chose to start your own business. I am sure that is true for whatever business it is that you are starting. I just happen be following my passion for Art. Now, it is best not to lie to yourself and think you will be become a millionaire within a year, a wonderful dream mind you, but you must be realistic.

In the self-taught Artist Realm as myself, you must really battle the negativity thought patterns and messages that you give yourself like ...."oh, I'm not that good"....."man, my work looks so elementary compared to....", and so on. You have got to train your brain to try something new, maybe a new technique, a new medium, a new subject form, or maybe even a new material to paint on. But, don't make yourself crazy trying so hard to better than someone else, that is the wrong approach altogether. Why was it that you painted in the first place?....oh, because it was fun, and enjoyable? and you liked the result of your finished work. Keeping your focus simple lets your creativity flow almost effortlessly. Dare to imagine what you could put on that blank canvas, or that slab of rock, or whatever surface you are wanting to express your creativity on. What matters is express your creativity, and let the chips fall where they may.

I like different types of art...contemporary, realistic, graphic, whatever....I love to see the creativity others as well. I try to create art that is practical and useful somewhat, like trivets, Wooden Shabbat Candle Holders and accessories, special hand-painted gift boxes, or whatever someone might come up with that they would like to have hand-painted. But, I don't limit myself to just that....I like painting on rocks, and canvas' that are not so practical but brings beauty to someones home, office and life. I have also spent 7 years being an Arts and Crafts Director for our synagogue's Children's Camp in which I painted a Special Theme Painting according to the Teaching Theme of that particular camp time. I usually painted the full painting at home but, it became a "progressive piece of work" as I taught the message with the crafts of the day, but each individual camper added something to the painting before camp was over for that year.

Well, all that said....first of all I must mention that a relationship with G-D has added an awesome dimension to my art in creativity, and subject matter. So, get out there find ways to be creative, and use those ways to learn about yourself your strengths, weaknesses, what you like or don't like and why you like or dislike something in art, find ways to build up your knowledge and experience..and your weaknesses will not be as prominent.

When, you get out there connect with other Artists, no matter whether you both do that same type of art or painting, you have Art as your common ground and connection, so learn from each other!! Connections are a huge part of having a business...you may connect with people that are not Artists, but love art and want to help you get your work out there to bee seen by those who do want to buy your artwork. This particular blog post is to give you a first hand, real live account of how connections are very important.

This has just recently happened to me, so who know how G-D will open a door for you as well. On a side note, I have friend that is also a business owner that makes faux pastries. She has been my encourager, and critic, and has went the extra mile for me, by featuring a "Boutique Artwork Project" that I completed on her website. I haven't even made it to the point of having a website as of yet, but, she was willing to give me space on her website so that I could have professional exposure for my work.

Now, down to the focus of this post. I have also made a connection with other friends from synagogue, a couple that is so sweet. I became friends with Meg an Occupational Therapist for Special Needs Children, through sharing info. on teaching Shabbat School. I teach the higher grades, and she teaches the lower grades. As we talked, and she become aware that I am an Artist, she wanted me to paint a couple of slab rocks that she had in home. After I completed the work, she and her husband Ken, was so amazed and loved my work. One of those rocks was to be a gift to Meg's sister. Meg's sister received her gift and loved it. I since then, have done a trivet for Meg advertizing her business. But, that is not all!!! Ken, is an Attorney and has a Business with Store Front Windows. Ken told me that he would love for me to put my work in his Store Front Windows and he would make sells for me!!! After a few months has past, I told the couple that I would like to take him up on his offer....they were overjoyed!!

After getting the measurements I set to work in designing how I would like to display me product. Ken and I set a date for me to come and set the window up. With the help of my youngest son Josh, we set to work, cleaning the windows, and filling them with my Hand-Painted Artwork products.

Here are some pics that I took afterwards:

In talking with Kenneth Johnson the business owner of the store front, his business by the way is just about 2 doors down from a really good Mexican Food Restaurant, which means there is a lot of foot traffic of people passing by these windows everyday. Not mention the fact that Ken knows a lot of the business owners in and around his business that he will be putting the words out to them about my work as well. Oh, here is 2 things that are like icing on the cake....#1. Ken had 2 friends that had came to visit him while I was setting up the windows, after finishing everyone went out front to take a look to see what it looked like from the street all finished....each of those friends bought a piece of my work!!! (So, the gold matchbox was sold, and the "On Eagles Wings" Rock was sold....I can do another gold matchbox, but the that rock was original). #2. Ken, has in mind to talk to his friend the Tea Room owner to see about placing some of my "Boutique Style" pieces in their Tea Room to boost sales!!!

WOW!!!...now that is what "Friends That Believe In You" can do in your humble beginnings to help get you started. So, be encouraged, don't give up!! Make connections!!! You will be glad that you did!!!

Show your Support for Israel.......with a Hair Bow from "Annie~Caroline's Bow"

Just 12.00
For those of us that Support Israel in prayer whether Christian or Jew, and through other means, possibly through Humanitarian efforts, or going to the land through tourism,  possibly serving through Messianic Ministries, or sending monitary gifts through ministry support...or whatever means that you find to show Israel that we in America care for them, and are concerned for their well being as a nation. Even though, the decisions of our American Govt. makes decisions that are in not in line with many American Supporters of Israel, we still have a heart and love for Israel.

This is just a short piece to let you know that I am featuring a product that a friend of mine has created through my gentle prodding, who is a New Business Owner her self and just starting out. Her business name is: "Annie~Caroline's Bows" in which she makes custom hair bows for girls, or for ladies who like to wear them.

In world news we know that there is controvercy on the Palestinian State within the borders of Israel, and the splitting up Jerusalem.....what better way to show support for Israel than to buy things that are physical reminders of who we stand for. Genesis 12:3 clearly states "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse, and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you." We should not be afraid to show support for Israel even if it is not Politically Correct, and to do nothing or say nothing...is still an answer that supports the majority of Political Correctness.

  All that said......
just simply please consider buying this sweet Israel Inspired Hair Bow for 12.00.
To send the a quiet message that you are in Support of Israel. Prayerfully seek out other ways according to your means in how you could do more to support the Land of the Bible...Israel Today.

Send "Judaic Expressions and More" a message, comment, or e-mail: judaicexoressionsandmore@ymail.com and way to contact you, if you are interested getting more info. on Ministries in Israel that you would like to financially support.
Thanks you so much for visiting my blog!!

Branching out in.: "Rose Bud" Boutique Treasures.......meets "My Pink Boutique"

Well, here I am.......I never know what will come my, but I am sure glad that I put that "....and More" on the "Judaic Expressions" name, because I sure have gotten into a whole lot of "....and More" lately. You know the old saying "never look a gift horse in the mouth"? Well, I have been gifted with some unfinished random little boxes that my good friend at "My Pink Boutique" passed on to me awhile back. I just so happen to run into them in my supplies and thought "what in the world am I going to do with these things?"

The next thing I know, some ideas started popping in to my head as I looked at each one. I got all excited, and chose these 2 rectangular nesting boxes with latches to be my first to play with, and to try out this "New Idea".
I had so much fun doing these, that I have started working on all the other boxes. They are not quiet complete as of yet. But, the 2 rectangular ones are finished. So, I took them back to my sweet friend at "My Pink Boutique". She loved them!!!.....and said that she would like to put them on her web-site to sell for me, since I am so new and have not got my web-site set up as of yet. I couldn't refuse such a generous offer!!!!

See a copy of the "My Pink Boutique" webpage here featuring a couple of my products:

Special Bar/Bat Mitzvah Keepsakes: How to keep the memory of that "Special Occasion."

There has always been  times and seasons of remembrances since time began. I have decided to do a little post on some things that I have done as gifts to honor my Shabbat School students that have moved on through the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program at our synagogue. I have done more of keepsakes than I have pictures for, I can assure you. I guess you could say that it has become "my Tradition" to give one of my custom hand-painted items to the Bar or Bat Mitzvah as a keepsake of their "Special Day" in making aliyah to the Torah for the first time.
So, here is an idea for those of you that are friends and family of soon to be Bar or Bat Mitzvah, order from me ahead of time a custom hand-painted keepsake. I am discovering new things all the time to do up something nice for this particular type of occasion. Here are some pictures of a Bat Mitzvah Keepsake that I did just last year to get your wheels turning on what you would like to see for your "Special Order".

This was done on 11x14 canvas board.
I always try to use symbolism to tell a "story" when doing a custom piece. The story is how the memory of this occasion is kept and passed down. In the particular piece, the Bat Mitzvah was done during winter, the Torah is always higher than the person making aliyah to the Torah symbolizing the fact that the Torah is a picture G-D because it is His Words that was spoken either by directly G-D to man, or by the inspiration of G-Ds' Holy Spirit to the Prophets or holy men of G-D. since this is a Bat Mitzvah I chose to create a "Door to Womanhood" with ribbon. The Cardinals are red symbolizing the blood of Yeshua, and their are 3 of them which is the number of siblings in that family that has or is having a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. In this case, the girl's 2 older twin sisters has already had their Bat Mitzvahs by the 2 sitting birds, and the bird that is flying down to join them is the "new" Bat Mitzvah about to join them in their accomplished group.

After the actual "Bat Mitzvah Day" there is a time of rest from all the preparations and work, and that is why the birds are sitting and resting. Notice, that there are 2 small trees on either side of the painting? If you understand that the 2 wooden polls on the Torah is the "Etz Chaim" or "Tree of Life" you would see that there is actually "3" trees in the picture. This is where the Messianic belief rests it's faith on the fact that all this symbolism points to Yeshua as the Jewish Messiah. The Torah is the best picture we have of Him, because He was the "Word of God" made into flesh as a man (the Living Torah), the Torah itself is lamb skin with the Words of G-D written on it. Yeshua died on a tree, just like the lambs that were sacrificed for sin offerings that was placed bound, and on the wood . That particular execution stake symbolizes "Eternal Life" because Yeshua arose from the tomb ...thus, "Tree of Life" just as what is used in holding the Torah scroll. So, the Torah in the middle of the 2 dead, and withered trees the symbol of Yeshua's death. In a Bar/Bat Mitzvah there is the leaving behind of childhood, and being elevated to growing into a woman or a man.

I also personalize the painting with the young persons name, Bat/Bat Mitzvah Date, and the Torah Portion they read.

These are just some of the details that I mentioned. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I painted the background to have a Torah "skin-look" look, and there is a golden aura around it symbolizing it's Holiness.

The ribbon is the color blue, depicting the Theme Colors of the Bat Mitzvah Celebration. But, that is the beauty of custom ordering....you have choices as what you want as far as colors, themes, hidden symbolization messages, and info that you want included.

Next, is a very practical gift that really enjoyed doing. What would such a special occasion be without photos to display of the Special Day? Here is a 4 Photo Pivoting Display with storage in the middle compartment for a few more photos to store so you can switch the photos out from time. Painted gold to with hand-painted black designs of Magen Davids, Vines and Hearts; each side is different.

This is the top of the lid....the "Jewish Heart" that is blossoming......the vines are symbolizing not only wine of Jewish Tradition, but also the vines are a symbol of "Holding on to Tradition" but, budding with the new life of the next generation.

This particular item is still available as of this post. If you are interested, please contact me at: judaicexpressionsandmore@ymail.com.

Be sure to include original #0047 and description: Gold/black 4 photo pivot box                                         in your email.
size: 5.75 x 5.75 x 5.76...opening 3 x 3             Price:  $40.00 (not including tax/shipping)

Remember, you can custom order what you want.....background colors, detail colors, themes, if you would like any script written on it, and if you do what would like it all to say....whether in English or in Hebrew.

The possibilities are endless!!

Also, remember to check out "Judaic Expressions and More: on FaceBook, look at all the photos of the products and choose from something there that you might like as well. Don't forget to "Like" me on FaceBook!!!

Hand-Painted Trivets....Anything goes, and they are not "Old Fashioned"!

Available/$ 20.00
What comes to mind when I say "Trivet"? A lot of you younger folks might say "Huh, what's that"?..but, us middle aged to older folks would probably know what a "Trivet" is from seeing them in our Mothers' and Grandmother's Kitchens, and on the table at special occasions. But, what about today? Has the Trivet lost it's place in the American home? I hope not!

New homes have evolved to some of the most beautifully, spacious, and multi-use retreats from a busy life. With custom decor themes that has no limit to the imagination, and the dawn of the "Home Office" or "Home Business", home owners to these "Dream Homes" are always on the look out for accessories, and accents that make the room exciting and unusual.

Most of these pieces that I have done, and are available for purchase are featured here in this blog post.

Available/ $20.00
"Boutiques" are all the rage, with the "Vintage" look, or the "French Patisserie"(Pastry Shop) and "French Boulangerie" (Bakery Shop). These particular Trivet Designs give a special accent to a counter or even a wall!!

What about Flowers and Plants!!! This particular piece is called "The Mysteries of Life" because so many analogies can be seen as one ponders and meditates on this amazing work of art.

Not just the kitchen either?......Trivets can be a wall decoration for any room in the house!!! Trivets can be a great unusual"wall tile" arrangement for the bathroom too!!!

How about this Rosebud Trivet? I can do the rosebuds, but you will have you own unique arrangement!! Just make sure to describe the colors that you would like them to be, when you contact me. This cute and springy Hebrew embossed Trivet which says "Shabbat Shalom" is a delight to bring out with your Shabbat dishes, and silverware!! Or, it is a way to have the "fragrance" or "essence" of Shabbat in your home through out the week, from one Shabbat to another. If you have a particular idea in mind for a "Shabbat Shalom" Trivet....again, this is not a pattern  that is set in stone, just something to give you an idea as what you might like to see in your home.

Oh, I almost forgot!!......you know that "Home-Based Office" that I mentioned earlier? Well, I actually have done a Special Order Custom Trivet for a person who is an Occupational Therapist. She asked for a particular background to be done, the background that was done on the Trivet above how a person with a perception deficit disorder might color something. Advertizing your "Home Based Business" is a great way to get you noticed. There is just endless possibilities on Occupations, Professions, Hobbies, Special Home Decor etc. for what to put on a Trivet, and what you might want to use a Trivet for.

"Dreams Do Come True.....with a New Beginning"

I have always wanted to be an Artist ever since I began to color as a child, I just didn't know that at the time. I  always loved my Art Classes in school, and I would glean as much as I can from each one. I would try to encrypt it to memory what projects I like to do, and the ones that I didn't. I tried to assess my strengths and my weaknesses, and work on the things that were my weaknesses, Today, I find myself still doing just that.
I am a self-taught Artist, my 2 favorite all-time Artist is Bob Ross, and neighbor Artist friend from childhood Jimmie Proffit. The highest formal Art Education that I have achieved is High School Art Classes with the best Art Teacher ever, that chose myself and several other Academic Art Students to go to Art Classes on Saturdays to then "East Texas State University" that he faithfully drove us to. In those drawing classes I learned a lot of valuable lessons and techniques that is still with me today. My now retired Art Teacher, Mr. Bass, taught us the basics of calligraphy, and I use it now in many of my art projects...I can do custom work in English and Hebrew.

Speaking of Hebrew....I wasn't raised Jewish, but in the Journeys of my life, after my husband and I were married a number of years, we were lead through a series of events (long story short)...we have been members of a synagogue for about 11 years now. In doing geneology  searches I have possibly a lost Jewish Heritage, which may explain why we were drawn to attend shul in the first place. Whatever the case may be, I have completed a 3 yr. Biblical Hebrew Education Program that lead me to graduate by making Alliyah to the Torah and having my Bat Mitzvah a little later in life than traditionally. As far as I know I am the first of my family to do so, tracing back to the German Immigrants on both of my parents sides of the family. Hoping to leave a legacy to my sons, 2 of which have already had their Bar Mitzvahs, leaving 1 more to go.

With this all said, you can see how I came up with the name of my business: "Judaic Expressions and More". I have learned to be flexible in my creativity and used my Art talents where I could, I have done wall murals, and at shul I spent 2-3 yrs. as Drama Team Art Director where I have organized many Artists to transform part of our building into a Russian Village for a "Fiddler on the Roof" play, and I have also spent about 8 yrs. as Arts and Crafts Director for our Shul's Childrens' Camp, Camp Elijah. Which brings me to where I am at now....

Last Summer the Camp Theme was "New Beginnings", we didn't realize it at the time but, that was the last time we would have camp at that location. This year a new camp was found, but, at this camp there is no time to do Arts and Crafts....so, after the prompting many of my sweet and dear friends that have been telling me for a couple of yrs. now, that I should start my own business. My husband and I wanted to start our own business for yrs. but we never could think of what we wanted to do together. I love my husband, but he is not artistic at all...but, very mechanically inclined. I could see myself doing a number of things, but we just couldn't figure out how to put it all together. So, I thought I would just take the plunge and be the Artist that I have always wanted to be!!! And possibly my husband will fit into the "mechanics" of things later on.

Well, so here we are!! I have made it to the "blog stage". I have not generated enough regular income to be able to support a reputable web-site as of yet. So, for now I will blog and add pics of my completed products that will be for sale. Hopefully my sweet Blog Followers, and Face Book Friends will see something they will like for a special occasion or something that might fit their decor, or even custom order something for a gift or keep-sake....but, not to stop there!!...remember you all are my advertisements and I need your help and support to grow this business. The sky is the limit to what G-D wants to do with this business, my main purpose is to glorify G-D, His people, and "The Land" (Israel) in which they live.

So, now I will post some pics of some recent items that I have just completed are for sell.....If something has caught your eye and you are wanting to inquire about it call my business #972-896-2499...9:00a-5:00p M-Th, Sunday 9:00a-3p.or e-mail me at: judaicexpressionsandmore at ymail.com.
